USPS Certified Mail Tracking: Understanding Upcoming Price Changes

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has recently filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) of upcoming price changes for mailing services, including certified mail tracking. The proposed changes aim to address continued elevated inflation and prior years' defective pricing model.

According to the USPS, the complete Postal Service price filing can be found on the PRC website under the Daily Listings section at prc.gov/dockets/daily. The PRC will review the changes before they are scheduled to take effect on July 9, 2023.

The proposed Mailing Services price changes include a number of adjustments, including increases in prices for various products such as certified mail, post office box rental fees, money order fees, and insurance costs when mailing an item. However, there will be no change to the single-piece letter and flat additional-ounce price, which remains at 24 cents.

Other notable changes include a 1-ounce letter mailed to another country increasing to $1.50, a 63-cent increase in the price of 1-ounce metered mail, and a 51-cent increase in the cost to send a domestic postcard. Additionally, the price of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp will rise from 63 cents to 66 cents.

The USPS is seeking these price adjustments to provide much-needed revenue and achieve financial stability as outlined in its Delivering for America 10-year plan. The proposed increases are expected to raise First-Class Mail prices by approximately 5.4 percent to offset the rise in inflation.
